Creamy, garlicky, and infused with fresh garden herbs, this Savory Herb Cheese Spread is an easy homemade version of the classic French Boursin. With its smooth, buttery texture and fragrant blend of marjoram, chives, basil, thyme, and parsley, it’s a versatile staple to keep on hand for entertaining. Serve it at room temperature with toasted baguette rounds, crackers, or fresh vegetables—or melt it over roasted potatoes or warm pasta for an effortless gourmet touch. Economical, make-ahead, and endlessly customizable, it’s a delicious way to bring French-inspired elegance to any occasion.

INGREDIENTS:

2 lb. cream cheese, softened
1 lb. butter, softened
2 teaspoons mashed garlic
2 tablespoons chopped sweet marjoram
2 tablespoons chopped chives
1 tablespoon chopped basil
1 teaspoon chopped English or French thyme
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

METHOD:

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the cream cheese and butter together on medium speed until light, smooth, and creamy, about 2–3 minutes.

Mix in the mashed garlic, then add the herbs, salt, and pepper. Continue beating until the mixture is evenly blended and the herbs are well distributed.

Chill the mixture briefly to firm it slightly, then:

  • Shape into logs (using plastic wrap or parchment) and twist the ends to seal, or
  • Spoon into small ramekins or crocks for easy serving.
  • Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or airtight containers.

Refrigerate for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months.

Bring to room temperature before serving for the best texture and flavor.

Spread on toasted baguette rounds, crackers, or fresh vegetables. It’s also wonderful melted over pasta or grilled vegetables.

YIELD: About 6 cups
