Rich Chocolate Walnut Pie

This decadent pie combines the gooey sweetness of a classic nut pie with rich chocolate for a dessert that’s indulgent yet perfectly balanced. With a crisp pastry crust, crunchy walnuts, and an almost custardy-chocolate filling, it’s a crowd-pleaser that works beautifully for holidays, dinner parties, or simply when you crave a chocolate fix in pie form.

INGREDIENTS:

4 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch salt
1 1/2 cups walnuts, chopped or broken into large pieces
1 cup quality semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell

METHOD:

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, and salt until smooth.

Stir in the chopped walnuts and chocolate pieces until evenly distributed.

Pour mixture into the unbaked pie shell, spreading evenly.

Place pie on a baking sheet and bake for about 55–60 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly puffed. The center should no longer jiggle when gently shaken.

Allow pie to cool completely on a wire rack. Slice and serve at room temperature, with barely sweetened whipped cream if desired.

YIELD: 9-inch pie

VARIATION:
Chocolate Pecan Pie: For a Southern-inspired twist, substitute 1 ½ cups chopped pecans for the walnuts. The pecans add a buttery, slightly sweeter flavor that pairs beautifully with the rich chocolate. You can also use a mix of pecans and walnuts for added texture and depth.

Pecans tend to toast more quickly than walnuts, so check the pie at about 50 minutes. If the top is browning too fast, loosely tent the pie with foil for the remainder of the baking time.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS:

Whipped Cream: Top each slice with a dollop of barely sweetened whipped cream or bourbon whipped cream for a hint of warmth.

Ice Cream Pairings: Vanilla bean, butter pecan, or salted caramel ice cream add a cool, creamy contrast to the rich filling.

Coffee or Liqueur: Serve with strong black coffee, espresso, or a splash of coffee liqueur for an elegant finish.

Garnishes: A sprinkle of shaved chocolate, candied orange peel, or a drizzle of caramel sauce makes each slice look bakery-ready.
